Snoop Dog's Instagram
Everyone go ahead and take a deep restorative breath: Snoop Dogg has apologized to Iggy Azalea after an epic social media strife, bringing the vicious battle to a seemingly peaceful conclusion.
First, a quick recap of the feud heard round the Intraweb world: Earlier this week, Snoop Dogg (or is that Lion?) posted a meme on Instagram attacking Iggy Azalea's sans-makeup appearance.
Iggy shot back that she was "disappointed" he was being such an "ass," to which Snoop responded by calling her a "cunt" and "bitch"—then posted more photos, comparing her to the characters in White Chicks. At one point, Iggy's boyfriend Nick Young got involved.
Now, with Snoop engineering his apology through Azalea's manager, T.I., the whole thing will seemingly fade into the ether, where it will dissipate with a faint stench of shame and sorrow, alongside so many other Twitter/Facebook/Instagram feuds of yore.
But what have learned from the whole messy affair? Probably nothing. Which is precisely the problem.
The Media, Snoop And Misogyny
The media would have you believe that the whole feud was downright silly, altogether harmless and even quite funny.
"Nick Young, Iggy Azalea and Snoop Dogg Are Engaged in an Enormously Dumb Beef," wrote The Bleacher Report.
"The utterly pointless, neverending beef Snoop Dogg started with Iggy Azalea," said CNN.
"The Snoop Dogg versus Iggy Azalea Internet scuffle got taken to another hilarious level," said Vibe.
In addition to these stories downplaying the sheer ugliness—and utterly unwarranted enmity—of Snoop's attacks, they also suggest that both players were somehow equitable players in the fight. But let's get this straight right here right now: Snoop Dogg nastily slammed Iggy's appearance with no provocation to do so; even a third grader can recognize that's bullying, not a fight.
When Iggy retaliated—quite classily I might add—she was merely defending herself, not stooping to Snoop's drama-seeking level; moreover, in doing so, she set a precedent for other girls and women to do the same in the face of such antagonistic bullshit.
You know what else is problematic? How satisfied everyone seems with Snoop's perfunctory apology, as if the quotidian, three-syllabled "I'm sorry" is enough to make it all go away. Enough for all of us to re-embrace the once-lovable, chain-weed-smoking name-chameleon that is Snoop, again. Why are we all so eager to let him off the hook? Ineffable charm? Sick hooks? Great braids?
It's also important to remember that Snoop's attacks don't belong in avacuum, and that for better or worse (and we're going to go with "worse"), he's a high-profile figure whose actions have broader social implications.

Allowing him to get away with casual "cunt" usage and public abuse is an implicit sanctioning of misogyny itself. Iggy's right: Snoop's an ass. And he, and everything he stands for, deserve to be called out for it.
